Mitchell Field About To Become Even Better

Posted by Chris Liebenthal on January 1, 2011

From Milwaukee County First:

For the past several months, General Mitchell Field has been breaking recordafter record for the number of people that are moving through it.

Without fail, former County Executive Scott Walker would boast of it and try to take credit for it, even while he was continuously trying to undermine it with budget cuts, furloughs and deferred maintenance.

But there is room for improvement, and County Executive Lee Holloway is stating he is ready to get that improvement started, according to this report from Fox6Now:

Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the country. Now, some county leaders want to make sure there’s enough staff to keep up with the demand.

Acting Milwaukee County Executive Lee Holloway said on Wednesday he planned to re-instate furlough days for airport employees.

“I’m gonna take off all the furloughs as soon as I can get off this stage now and allow us to keep the airport clean and allow us to work at full capacity,” said Holloway.

The most interesting part of this story though, as with most news stories comes at the end:

Barry Bateman is the airport director. He says passengers have been complaining about the conditions at Mitchell. Bateman says the bathrooms have been a focus of that frustration.

What is it with Walker and his apparent aversion to  allowing people to have clean bathrooms?  First the courthouse, now the airport.

And who knows, with the airport workers back in full force, not only will the bathrooms be cleaned, maybe parts of it won’t fall on people’s heads.

The best part of it all is that not only will it make the airport even more popular, but it won’t cost the tax payers a dime.  Now if we could get him to see that the rest of the county, and the tax payers, are suffering for all of these furlough days.

But isn’t it refreshing to have someone actually make sensible decisions?
